History tends to look back kindly on musicians unafraid to proudly wear their music on their sleeves. On the cover of their 1976 debut album The Ingram Kingdom, the members of Ingram stand united in front of a banner that reads “the funk is in our music,” and the transfixing image of the cover flows deep in the body of the album’s audio landscape. The title track opener further reinforces the foundations of the group’s sanctuary with a sprawling funk jam; fit with crunching guitar solos and towering vocals. These moments of funk euphoria are matched evenly with pauses for thought and calm in the spacious soul ballads ‘Tried It and Liked It’ and ‘She’s All Alone (I Need A Man)’.
