Excellent hard-rock made in Belgium in 1971 and originally released in the Triangle label. Their sound was clearly influenced by Deep Purple or even Uriah Heep, with killer guitar all over and good use of organ.

This has been considered as a key album in the hard-rock field since the early days of collecting, with originals fetching really some money!

The story of Irish Coffee begins in 1969 with a band called The Voodoo. Initially concentrating on covers by Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Who and The Kinks, the group built its reputation playing at the El Gringo club near Aalst, Belgium. There they met Louis de Vries, manager of The Pebbles, who signed the band and encouraged them to change their name to Irish Coffee. The line-up featured William Souffreau (vocals, guitar), Jean Van Der Schueren (guitar), Willy De Bisschop (bass), Paul Lambert (keyboards) and Hugo Verhoye (drums).

Their breakthrough came with the debut single “Masterpiece”, backed with “The Show”. Recorded in Antwerp at an 8-track studio, “Masterpiece” climbed to the national charts and became a fixture on Belgian and French concerts and television. Sharing management with The Pebbles opened the door to a busy live schedule, and Irish Coffee found themselves performing alongside major acts including Colosseum, Chris Farlowe, Uriah Heep, Focus, Chicken Shack.

In July 1971, Triangle Records released the band’s self-titled debut album, with the material written predominantly by Souffreau and Van Der Schueren.
