The second studio album by the influential Southern Rock group The Allman Brothers Band. Idlewild South (1970) contains two of the band’s best-known songs, “Midnight Rider” (later covered by Joe Cocker, Bob Seger, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson, among others) and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, which would become one of the band’s famous concert numbers.
A retrospective five-star review by Bruce Eder on 11//Music deemed it as “the best studio album in the group’s history, electtic blues with an acoustic texture, virtuoso lead, slide, and organ playing, and a killer selection of songs.”
