TRIPLE FOLDOUT COVER
Born as Gleemen, authors of an eponymous album whose music can be labeled as late 60’s psychedelic rock, with the release of the “Marta Helmuth” 7-inch the Genoese band changed their name to Garybaldi and laid the foundations for a stylistic evolution that was fully reflected in the realization of their first LP, “Nuda”.
Often labeled as a ‘simple’ Jimi Hendrix copycat, guitarist Bambi Fossati shows here that he was not a mere replica of his idol. The album opens with the rushing “Maya desnuda” but, most of all, closes with “Moretto da Brescia”, a 20-minute suite that fills the whole side B of the record, displaying a wide variety of different styles and atmospheres, revealing the true ‘progressive side’ of the quartet.
“Nuda” is a wonderful and iconic record not only in its musical content but also in its appearance, thanks to a tri-gatefold cover, exclusively illustrated by the comic book artist Guido Crepax. This LP will be soon followed by “Astrolabio”, before a long hiatus, but the band won’t probably be able to reach the artistic peaks of this little masterpiece.
