Y aunque los artistas nigerianos eran m\u00e1s o menos familiares para Samy (el fundador del sello), cuando Gnonnas empez\u00f3 a cantar sobre \u2018Picoby\u2019, \u2018Renova\u2019, \u2018Annasoua Jazz\u2019, \u2018Super Borgou\u2019, \u2018Super Star\u2019, \u2018El Rego\u2019, \u2018Black Santiago\u2019 y otras bandas de Benin de las que nunca hab\u00eda o\u00eddo hablar, se sinti\u00f3 impulsado a averiguar m\u00e1s. Muy temprano en su carrera, nuestro amigo hab\u00eda conseguido su primer \u00e9xito con una canci\u00f3n llamada \u2018Dadje Von O Von Non\u2019. Era un Agbadja, un ritmo ancestral tocado durante las ceremonias funerarias en Le Mono, la regi\u00f3n de donde proven\u00eda la familia de Gnonnas Pedro. Very early in his career our friend had landed his first hit with a song called \u2018Dadje Von O Von Non\u2019. It was an Agbadja, an ancestral rhythm played during burial ceremonies in Le Mono, the region where Gnonnas Pedro\u2019s family came from. Gnonnas adapted, modernised and coined it \u2018Agbadja Modern\u2019 and that\u2018s how he became known and beloved as \u2018Roi de l\u2019Agbadja Moderne\u2019.Almost a decade later, in the mid-70s, Gnonnas secured a deal with African Songs Ltd and later with the Take Your Choice (TYC), two labels out of Nigeria. At that period Gnonnas had been recording and performing for a decade, and while a few of the original band members had left, the majority of the musicians had stayed with him. The relatively consistent membership of \u2018Les Dadjes\u2019 meant that they had developed into a well-oiled groove machine by the time the \u2018Nigerian years\u2019 began. The various masterpieces the band recorded between 1975 and 1980 in Lagos catapulted Gnonnas Pedro to superstardom back home in Benin, but also made him a name in other West African countries, where his songs were regularly broadcast on the national airwaves.
