Formada a principios de 1970 por el bajista de Deep Purple, Nick Simper, Warhorse comenz\u00f3 como banda de acompa\u00f1amiento de la cantante Marsha Hunt. Inicialmente, el grupo tambi\u00e9n inclu\u00eda a Rick Wakeman, pero dej\u00f3 la banda en abril de 1970 para unirse a Strawbs. El \u00e1lbum debut hom\u00f3nimo de la banda fue lanzado en Vertigo en noviembre de 1970 y es un buen ejemplo del hard rock progresivo de la \u00e9poca. Con un fuerte toque de \u00f3rgano Hammond, el grupo estaba liderando una nueva forma de pensar, fusionando elementos neocl\u00e1sicos con blues pesado.
